California regional broadband consortia grants

The California Public Utilities Commission approved specific grant requirements for the regional broadband consortia program established last year by Senate Bill 1040. Qualifying regional consortia, in urban and rural areas, can apply for up to $150,000 in funding for each of three years ($450,000 total). Grant application materials are available here.

Tellus Venture Associates is responsible for the successful Central Coast Broadband Consortium application, and can provide assistance in applying for consortia grants.

Assisting community broadband projects

Creating and implementing fundable business plans for community broadband projects is a speciality of Tellus Venture Associates. Our experience includes:

  • Financial and technical feasibility studies
  • Primary market research to determine demand and community support
  • Business case assessment
  • Business model and funding development
  • Public/private partnerships
  • Reference designs
  • RFP development and support
In addition, we can help communities prepare applications for broadband grants from several sources, including the California Advanced Services Fund. Tellus Venture Associates managed grant applications in both rounds of the broadband stimulus program. We were responsible for a broadband infrastructure stimulus grant application to NTIA for a $50 million project on behalf of the Central Coast Broadband Consortium (CCBC) in California. Assistance was provided to other clients, including the City of Los Angeles and the City of Oakland, in assessing and preparing stimulus grant requests.
